The Girnar ropeway – a blessing for tourism in the region

The Girnar ropeway, which started as a convenient means to make visits to the temples on Mt.Girnar expedient for devotees, has indeed proved to be a boon for tourism in the region. Compared to 59,188 tourists who made use of the ropeway in February, 77,796 tourists used it in March, which is undoubtedly a sharp increase of 18,608.


The 2.3 kms ropeway was unveiled in October 2020, and so far, it has aided 11 lakh tourists and devotees, fetching a sum of Rs. 56 crore in revenues, as per official records. In the last three months, a noteworthydevelopmentboth in the number of tourists and revenue has been witnessed. Totaling Rs. 4.03 crore, revenue from the project witnessed a 33% increase in March compared to Rs. 3.1 crore in February.


The cable cars ferry all passengers to an altitude of 898.4 meters, where tourists can view the surrounding beautiful scenery. The cars are currently making around 551 trips per day. Girnar holds a great religious meaning for the Gujaratis and also for tourists from other states and foreign countries. The ropeway project is also bringing in employment opportunities for the locals and revenue has increased by one crore in just a month, which is a proof of its success and popularity. This was said by Alok Kumar Pandey, the Managing Director of Gujarat Tourism Corporation.
