The hospitality industry has recently requested the government to start issuing tourist visas. This move is expected to boost up the sector that was struggling massively by the Covid-19 pandemic. A task force was set up. It comprised of the representatives from the airline, hospitality and travel.
They have also requested the government to get the travel bubble arrangements bigger that would eventually allow tourists to come to India.
Covid-19 pandemic has caused a huge massive drop in demand for leisure and vacation travel and the sector with a potential loss of 0.9- -1.2 trillion dollars world over, the United Nations World Tourism Organization has estimated.
The task force of representatives from the airlines such as IndiGo, Vistara, GoAir, travels associations like the Federation of Associations in Indian Tourism and Hospitality (FAITH), Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI), Indian Association of. India (TAAI), Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO), and airport operators have been discussing with the officials from the government, seeking steps to revitalize the demand in the sector.
IATO and TAAI representatives have already discussed with the officials in the ministries of Civil Aviation, Tourism and Home Affairs. Also, they have written to them to introduce tourist visas, as it would give a much needed thrust to struggling tourism and hospitality industry.
