Taking over office, Solih prioritized India over China. Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India took part in Solih’s induction in 2018. He again visited the Maldives in 2019, which was the first abroad tour of his second stint.

Even though Solih upholds a steadfastly pro-India attitude, at the same time, he maintains a stance not to upset China. Though Chinese tourism was off the table during the course of last year, with China now finally reopening its boundaries, the financial burden of the China link will yet again come to bear.
