In Kerala, as part of the Responsible Tourism project, has introduced Kerala Agri Tourism Network-Farm Tourism. It would benefit farming activities as well as the agricultural community with the help of tourism. The effort will help local communities as well as unemployment issue. The authorities under this initiative will set up 500 farm tourism units and 5,000 homestay farms by March 31st, 2023. The initiative focuses in mixing tourism and agriculture activities by taking on eco-friendly steps.
Besides introducing Kerala Agri Tourism Network-Farm Tourism, P A Mohamed Riyas, the Tourism Minister of Kerala, has also introduced a state-level training program that would strengthen farm tourism, which will add a momentum to the tourism sector in return post-pandemic. Kerala Tourism to achieve the goals will work by joining hands with local self-government institutions.
To develop the Agri Tourism Network, the initiative is trying traditional agricultural practices of the state. Also, the initiative will bring in farming culture of Kerala to foreign tourists along with the new generation. The Agri Tourism will work on the basis of the declaration of the World Tourism Organization to make sure a future of responsible tourism. Authorities have also planned to launch an app and organize local fairs to promote the initiative.
