The second quarter of 2021 to see a double-digit growth in tourism & services industries of China

In the second quarter of 2021, the tourism and services industries in China are hoped to witness a double-digit growth year-on-year after the country further raises domestic travel restrictions in the middle of a stable COVID-19 epidemic situation, experts have predicted.

People can travel freely by train from March 16th, all over China with a green health code, which shows a good record of health and will not need to present a negative nucleic acid test certificate. On Sunday, the Global Times learned this from the customer service operator of the railway authorities. Airports in some cities in China have imposed same rule, according to media reports.

Economic experts have mentioned that simplifying of travel restrictions and the increasingly positive epidemic situation with an accelerated nationwide vaccination from March to May will promote the tourist flow significantly and boost tourism and services industries.

To quote Cong Yi, a professor at the Tianjin University of Finance and Economics, “It is estimated that tourism and services industries will rapidly resume growth in the second quarter, with a double-digit year-on-year growth.” He further added that the secondary and tertiary industries will witness rapid growth in general compared with the same time in 2020.

Though the information for Q1 of 2021 has yet to come but for Q4 in 2020, the sector has dropped 33 percent on an annual basis and tertiary industry increased 6.7 percent year on year.

“In addition to a better epidemic situation, this year also marks the beginning of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) with a lot of projects set to roll out. The further easing of travel restrictions will lead to a significant increase in production and commercial activities,” Cong said.

During the upcoming three-day Qingming Festival holiday, the first domestic travel peak will be coming which falls on the first weekend of April.

According to Qunar, a Chinese online travel agency, hotel bookings for the Qingming holiday had risen by at least 4.5 times year-on-year as of Thursday, according to media reports.
