Canada was handling the severe consequences of a misstep related to vaccine just two months ago with lagging vaccination rates creating a constant closed down of air border with the U.S. The tourism groups in Canada at that time asked the residents to stay in Canada this summer and spend their time locally.

However, the Tourism Industry Association of Canada, alongside officials of tourism, representing the territorial and provincial destinations of the country, is now making the government responsible and asking decision makers to #OpenTheBorder with the U.S.

On Tuesday, this campaign was launched as reports came up that the government of Canada has plans to ease quarantine restrictions for vaccinated travelers by June 22.

On Tuesday, at the Canada press event, David McKenna, the Chairman of Tourism Industry Association of Canada explained that it was the right time for the country to turn to policies that are forward- thinking as vaccinations are rising. The government at the same time is speaking of lessening help to tourism businesses.

“If financial aid is going to decrease, then the border needs to reopen so that the businesses can go back to work and support themselves,” McKenna said, mentioning that the industry’s reopening push was also based on the recent report from the expert advisory panel of the government on Covid 19 testing and screening.
