Tourism in the UK appears to be doing rapid business with thousands of people visiting London from all over the world to pay their last respects to Queen Elizabeth II.

The average rate for a hotel in London went up $384 per night from $244 per night since the statement of the Queen’s death.

The occupancy levels could break an all-time record of 95 per cent with more people expected to pay homage to the queen during her funeral. Over 60 per cent of travelers are from foreign countries.

Till Sunday night, several renowned hotels – Claridge’s, the Connaught, The Dorchester and the Berkeley in the high-class Mayfair district were fully booked.

Thomas Emanuel, the senior director of hotel analytics firm STR said that it is not at all surprising when you think that all eyes in the world are centered on the capital and the media, bigwigs and members of the public, who wish to be part of a historic event like this.

Besides this, a weaker pound is also attracting people from the overseas, providing much-needed breather to restaurants, museums and pubs who are yet to recover completely from the pandemic and record levels of price rises.
