The UNWTO invites applications for Best Tourism Villages

Recently, the UNWTO declared that it is now taking in applications for the third version of its Best Tourism Villages creativity.

This program launched in 2021, has by nowacknowledgedmore than 70 villages from approximately 40 countries for their hard work with further 40 designated for involvement in the Upgrade program.

In 2023, national tourism administrations (NTAs) of the UNWTO member states can offer up to eight villages to be considered with applications concluding on June 23this year. The winners would be declared later this year.

Applications are assessed by aself-governing global advisory board comprisingspecialists in different fields, involving protection ofcultural and natural assets, sustainability, expansion oftourism products, promotion and value chain.

ZurabPololikashvili, the UNWTO Secretary-General said that tourism can bring in a real metamorphosis for countrysidepopulations, providingemployment, encouraging businesses and reveling and guarding traditions. He added thatwith the Best Tourism Villages inventiveness, the UNWTO is identifyingthe rural destinations that are devotedtoward making tourism a mainstay of prospect and well-being.

The Best Tourism Villages enterprise has three constituents: the acknowledgment of exceptionalcountryside tourism places with ethnic and natural resources, the Upgrade Program for villages that do not completely meet the standards for acknowledgment, and a net for exchanging understandings and worthy practices.

Villages which would beacknowledged will obtainspecific mentoring and connect to the best tourism villages network.
