On Thursday, Yogi Adityanath, UP Chief Minister, inaugurated the Bhagirathi Tourist Guest House of the UP State Tourism Development Corporation (UPSTDC) in Haridwar. He handed over Haridwar’s Alaknanda tourist bungalow to the Uttarakhand chief minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami. It’s an important step towards determining the allocation of assets between the two neighbouring states.

After the division of Uttar Pradesh on November 9, 2000, UPSTDC’s Alaknanda tourist bungalow in Hardwar was declared a property of Uttarakhand. As UP declined to give Alaknanda to Uttarakhand, the issue went to the Supreme Court. Later, an agreement reached Uttarakhand government of giving land for the construction of UP’s 100-room Bhagirathi tourist bungalow of 43.27 crore worth which was inaugurated by Yogi on Thursday.

Yogi Adityanath, while delivering speech on the occasion explained that it was an instance of how between two states, an unfinished issue can be resolved only with the help of dialogue exchange, if the political will is initiated in the right way. He also explained that under the guidance of Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, UP and Uttarakhand have been able to decide and come to a conclusion on the 21-year old argument mutually.

“When I became UP CM in 2017, within a week the Supreme Court had expressed resentment over delay in resolving property disputes between the two states regarding handing over of Alaknanda hotel to Uttarakhand. I took it as a priority so that such inter-state disputes don’t get dragged on for years in courts. I assure people of Uttarakhand that both sides will be satisfied as all disputes pertaining the two states will be resolved in a similar manner as has been done in the Alaknanda hotel case,” said Adityanath.
