There is a big need to develop an ecosystem for improving Delhi as a model similar to Singapore for legal tourism, opined theerstwhile Supreme Court judge Arjan Kumar Sikri at an arbitration assemblywhich was held in New Delhiover this weekend.


Justice Sikri took part in the conclave titled, “Arbitrate in India Conclave 2022”. He said that why Delhi is not developed as a model similar to Singapore and have legal tourism. It needs to be seen whetherit is possible to create an environment fornurturing legal tourism. In the current context, many countries are able torealizethat and Singapore has already cited an example, if Asia is taken into consideration.


The former judge saidthat the main requirement is creatingan environment in India which is Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR) -responsive.


ADR comprisesa method that is cost-friendly and quick to resolve differences. The judge said that itincludesbuilding an environment where stakeholders can easily get their issues decided in India. He said this while speaking at the event held by the Indian Dispute Resolution Center, concurring with their second year since its establishment.


Balbir Singh, who is theadditional solicitor general and was a part of the panel, said that the government has made conflict resolve its priority. If India is thinking to attain $ 5 trillion economy, the resolution of disagreements in India at any level should be a priority.
