The latest victim, a Japanese man in his 80s, tested positive for the deadly flu-like illness while aboard ship and was among those taken off and hospitalized last week, Japanese health officials said.
The 3,700-passenger vessel had been held for two weeks off the coast of Japan amid fears that the virus was spreading, according to Health Ministry official Masami Sakoi.
Two other passengers from the ship, an 87-year-old man and an 84-year-old woman, died from the coronavirus earlier this week.
In total, 691 passengers — nearly one-fifth of the ship’s population — have been reported infected by the virus, according to news reports.
