Of late, hundreds and thousands of tourists could be seen thronging to hill stations to get some respite from the everyday’s hustle and bustle. Another reason for this sudden tourist surge is the somewhat stable Covid situation in India.
However, last weekend, as many as 4,000 vehicles that were on their way to Mussoorie and Nainital were sent back by the Uttarakhand Police.
The Nainital administration restricted almost 5000 tourists from visiting the hill station due to overcrowding and COVID-19 fears. The authorities said that most of the tourists could not produce their negative RT-PCR test, so they were barred from entering. Also, there wasn’t any parking space available in the hill station.
Nainital’s Senior Superintendent of Police said that the number of tourists visiting the hill station has increased significantly, but people without negative COVID reports are not allowed to enter Nainital.
Hotels in all these hill stations are packed to their full capacity, and are left with little to no parking space.
