Climate activists have threatened to use drones to protest at Heathrow Airport leading to flight suspension for 10 days in summer. Extinction Rebellion is an environmental protest group that intends to fly drones on an airfield nearby putting flights in danger.

The protestors will be targeting the transport hub for the second time in June. They have previously caused havoc to London and the capital’s wider transport system.

They claim that there will be further action in July in the middle of many Britons summer breaks.

The closure is feared from July 1, and would strand hundreds of thousands of people in and out of the Heathrow airport which is Europe’s busiest airport.

Extinction Rebellion said that if the Government does not cancel all Heathrow expansion, they will act to shut the airport down for up to 10 days from July 1.

They plan to carry out nonviolent direct action on June 18, to ensure Heathrow Authorities close the airport for the day, to create a ‘pause’ in recognition of the genocidal impact of high carbon activities, such as flying, upon the natural world.

Heathrow staff is working with authorities to address the threat of protests at the airport as the reckless action of the climate activists could endanger the lives of the travelling public and the colleagues.

They believe that climate change is important but it requires us to work together constructively.

It seems London Heathrow Airport will face delays and closures this summer.
