Tigerair flight TT271 en route Melbourne was turned back to Sydney after a booklet was discovered on board with a censured word written on the back of it.
The flight was near the Victorian border after 8pm on Monday when the flight had to turn back to Sydney.
NSW Police Superintendent Brad Hodder confirmed the discovery of the booklet worried the crew.
“An airline was turned back to Sydney Airport in relation to a booklet that was located that raised some concern with the airline personnel,” Supt Hodder told reporters on Tuesday.
“A response was made to the airport by emergency services and NSW Police force, and we enacted our emergency procedures.”
Supt Hodder would not say what the word was or how long the booklet had been on the plane.
Tigerair said the captain decided to turn the flight around “following an incident on board”.
Tiger apologised for any inconvenience but insisted the safety of crew and guests was the “highest priority”.
“There was a word and that’s forming a part of our investigation,” Supt Hodder said.
However, NSW Police said all the passengers were safe.
