In the summer months, even though Tiruchi and adjacent places witnessed an excellent rush of local tourists, there has not been an important rise in international arrival after the COVID 19 pandemic in the city.
Mainly April and May 2023, there have been frantic business for the trades that are tourism dependent. Starting right from hotels to the merchants selling flowers and operators of cab in Tiruchi, generally these people get good business during the summers as tourists visit different attractions and pilgrim spots with full fervor.
As per the hospitality stakeholders, before the COVID-19 pandemic, Tiruchi welcomed almost 40 lakh domestic travellers every month. On a monthly basis, the average tourist number in terms of domestic was about 20 lahk.
In April and May, almost, 25 lakh tourists visited Tiruchi, according to a rough estimate. Due to the good flow of tourists, the trades and businesses in Trichy have fared reasonably well.
However, foreign tourist arrival continues to list sluggish growth rate. It is yet to come back to pre-pandemic situation and rate. In the State, Tiruchi-Thanjavur- Pudukottai- Ariyalur – Chidambaram was one of the three popular tourism circuits for international tourists during the pre-pandemic period.
The international tourists majorly from countries like France, Italy, Spain, England, Germany, Norway, and Sweden, had stayed for a night in Tiruchi. After exploring Gangaikondacholapuram and Rockfort Temple, Tiruchi is the landing centre at Tiruchi International Airport.
