To boost domestic tourism, Jordan introduces 9-mln USD program

On Thursday, Jordan introduced a program worth 9 million U.S. dollars. It would enhance domestic tourism that got majorly affected by the pandemic.


Nayef Al-Fayez, the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Jordan, have explained that the program is interested to encourage citizens to explore the tourist destinations all over Jordan at affordable to low prices. This will be executed in cooperation with travel agencies.


To help the sector in getting revived from pandemic blows, the program features tourism offices in planning and implementing trips, tourist transportation, tourist guides, domestic aviation, and sundry tourist facilities, the minister emphasized.

He also mentioned that the program launch came after an increase in the number of people from Jordan who received the vaccine and the development of the situation across the country.


The tourism sector of Jordan accounts for roughly 13 percent of the GDP of the Kingdom saw a sharp plunge in income to only 1 billion Jordanian dinars (1.41 billion U.S. dollars) last year, from 4.1 billion dinars in 2019.
