To boost tourism, Thailand plans Phuket Medical Hub

In Phuket, the government of Thailand has approved setting up of a 5 billion baht international medical hub with the target of expanding health- and wellness tourism on the largest island of the country.


Next year, the construction of the Andaman International Health Center will kick-start and will be completed by 2027, Traisuree Traisoranakul, the deputy government spokeswoman, recently told in a press briefing on Tuesday in Bangkok. The project will comprise for the locals and international patients, a full-service hospital as well as a research facility and training center for professionals related to medicine.

The Andaman International Medical Hub will act as a training centre, training more than110 doctors, pharmacists, nurses, medical technicians and other professionals of medical field.


The project will have the a facility for the research as well as development of health services and will act as a hospital, which will be competent in treating right from basic to complicated conditions health and will perk up the of the locals and tourists alike who will have the contacts to all the reliable and quality medical care, said the deputy spokesperson.


The hospital will have 300 bed facilities and will be able to manage almost 12,500 complicated issues and over 300,000 out-patients every year.


Also, she said that it will have the facility of the first advanced dental care in the southern region.
The project is expected to help Thailand to become a medical hub and medical tourism centre for the region, in line with the government’s 20-year national strategy.
