From 1st March, Sri Lanka is set to launch a mobile app which would help in protecting the tourists, Harin Fernando, the Tourism Minister of the island said this recently.
On Saturday, the minister, while giving speech in an event in Colombo said that in this region, this is one of the best mobile applications for the safety of the tourists, Xinhua news agency reported.
He also added that the app can operate in seven different languages.
The tourism minister also said that this mobile app will register all three-wheelers. It will have a barcode which will be displayed on the vehicle which the international tourists have to scan.
He also mentioned that once a tourist reports any wrong incident by scanning the barcode, tourism officials and police would take action right away.
The ministry will have call center that would be active 24 hours to support the app, he said.
Also, the police can keep an eye on the app and take the right measure in the event of any negative incident that causes inconvenience or put tourists in danger.
One of the leading foreign exchange earners of Sri Lanka, the sector of tourism has suffered a delay due to the pandemic and financial and political crises in the island.
In 2023, Sri Lanka is set to draw around 1.5 million tourists and 3 million tourists in next year.
