Last week, William Heinecke, the chairman of Minor International PCL, has sent an open letter to the Thailand Prime-Minister on the way to start the tourism of the country and get it ready for a safe re-opening of its hospitality industry as well.
In Asia-Pacific, Minor International PCL, is one of the largest hospitality companies. It manages famous brands like the Marriot and Radisson Blu.
As the letter particularly pertained to Thailand, few experts of tourism in Cambodia observed that many of the ideas Heinecke mentioned are well in progress or being discussed in Cambodia already.
For Thailand, Heinecke’s suggestions included: the speeding up of vaccine rollout for the citizens as well as the foreigners residing in the country, permitting the tourists who are vaccinated to enter the country without quarantine, increase the speed of the acceptance of a vaccine passport approved list and simplifying visa measures and provision of free or low-cost Covid-19 testing for the public.
At present, accelerated rollout of vaccination is being done by Cambodia in the best possible way. Currently, it has vaccinated around 23 percent of its population. The level of vaccination of the Kingdom’s per capita ranks behind only Singapore in ASEAN according to recent figures.
In the context of tourism, prioritizing everyone’s vaccination associated with the industry before its re-opening, something Albania did in March 2021, could help build boost up confidence level among tourists when they start to look at potential travel destinations post-Covid.
