In five famous cities in India, Sri Lanka will hold road shows which would help to draw more tourists from the densely inhabited northern neighbor in an effort to attract more foreign currency into this island country which recently got crisis-hit, its tourism minister stated this on Wednesday.

Sri Lanka is well-known for its expansive hills, immaculate coastlines and carefree seaside towns; this island nation is struggling with its worst monetary catastrophe happened in seven decades, which is partially triggered by monetary negligence and mismanagement and partly due to the COVID-19 breakout. These two factors wiped out its profitable tourism industry completely.

Now, the country of 22 million is surviving without sufficient foreign currency to import essentials, as a result, creating dearth of food, medicine, and fuel.

In spite of the chaos, the country has witnessed a trickle of 61,951 Indian tourists in 2022’s first five months and the government of Sri Lanka is eager to bring in more Indians to the island.

The Tourism Minister, Harin Fernando, said that Sri Lanka must have tourism revenue if the island nation has to come out from its crisis period. It’s compulsory.

To attract business as well as leisure travellers, in addition to destination weddings, the tourism ministry of Sri Lanka will arrange road shows in five major cities in India, Fernando said.

He said that India is a very important market for Sri Lanka.
