Since the government closed the borders at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the tourism sector of Bali has been depending a lot on domestic travellers. However, this approach has not been quite fulfilling to help the industry, particularly accommodation businesses. In 2020, the number of trips to Bali by domestic travellers increased by 19.81 percent to 8.61 million, as per the data of Statistics Indonesia (BPS). International arrivals at Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport dropped by 83.02 percent to 1.05 million. The rise in domestic arrivals was caused largely by people moving to Bali temporarily while office occupancy in Jakarta and other places was reduced to stop this pandemic spread. The Tourism Ministry coined the Work-from-Bali plan. The government selected Bali for numerous events to help the tourism of the island.
