Tokyo has been named as the top destination by eDreams for European travelers next year in its fourth annual European Traveller Insights Report.
Tokyo bagged the top spot due to a year-on-year bookings increase of 90% and a year-on-year bookings increase 0f 101% during The Rugby World Cup in October and November.
With Japan hosting the Olympic Games next year, eDreams expects the UK visitors to Tokyo to increase three-fold.
The Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) is aiming to attract 40 million annual inbound tourists by 2020, and 60 million by 2030.
“Tourists from the UK are currently recording the highest increase in bookings to visit Tokyo next year,” said Pablo Caspers, the chief travel officer of eDreams.
Tokyo was followed on eDream’s top 10 list by Fort-de-France (Martinique), Pointe-a-Pitre (Guadeloupe), Phuket, Dakar, Miami, Lanzarote, Bangkok and Amsterdam.
