Torrential rain is battering the UK today with heavy downpours causing floods in London with warnings of more to come.

The torrential downpour is likely to lash a huge swathe of the country throughout Tuesday.

The Met Office warns with up to 70mm rainfall.

The rain has been described as “biblical” by those getting stuck in it.

Shocking videos and footage show people struggling to wade through the rising water.

One cannot expect sunny spells until later this week but could bring another heatwave.

A spokesman for the Met Office said that today there will be outbreaks of heavy rain moving north-eastwards across England.

As skies brighten across southern England and Wales with some heavy and windy showers, the climate is turning warm and muggy.

The yellow weather warning for rain has been put in place across the northeast, midlands and southeast of England.

A spokesman said whilst many will see a wet day on Tuesday, there is the chance of very heavy rainfall for some.
