The recent structure of the Atal Tunnel Planning Area and freezing of the present land usage of this area,
which comprises Lahaul and Spiti district, is expected to postpone the growth of tourism amenities at the
south entrance of the tunnel at Dhundi.
The tourism department made a strategy to build a cafeteria, pavilion and parking lot accompanied by a
selfie area among other amenities at an expense of Rs. 6 crore on 4 bigha capacity.
Now, the department might have to look for consent from the Town and Country Planning (TCP)
Department, which is expected to postpone the necessities of services. Rasik Sharma, the Kullu District
Town Planner said that the land use has been stationary in the area. He stated that a diagram of the
area would be arranged to recognize the prevailing constructions.
Sunayna Sharma, the District Tourism Development Officer said that the modalities would be recognized
following the announcement regarding the Atal Tunnel Planning Area.
Quite a number of hotels and homestays have sprung up in the Lahaul zone for meeting the rising
requirements of the tourism segment. Hence, the government thought to normalize construction
happenings in accordance with the TCP Act, particularly along highways and roads, with the purpose of further expansion not getting obstructed. Nevertheless, this might become an obstacle in improving basic services in the area.
