Now, the tourism sector can relax after today’s declaration made by the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, that the country’s borders will reopen on April 1st.

Datuk Mohd Khalid Harun, Malaysian Association of Tour Agency (MATA) president, explained that its members welcomed the good news. They would be introducing new domestic and foreign promotion packages to draw tourists at the maximum.

“With less than a month (before the borders reopen), our members will offer various promotion packages for domestic and foreign destinations and I am confident that they can prepare various tour packages to market.”

“I also would like to advise all members to emphasise on health aspects for every tourist they bring in by preparing Covid-19 self-test kits to monitor the health levels of the tourist,” he said in a statement today.

Khalid also mentioned that they would obey with the standard operating procedure that will support and help the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry to enthuse Malaysia at the international arena.

In the meantime, Dr. Sri Ganesh Michiel, Malaysia Budget and Business Hotels Association (MyBHA) deputy president, stated that even though the revival of the hospitality and tourism industries will take some time, he is hopeful that the SOP can be issued before the borders reopen to keep away from any type of misunderstanding.
