In an attempt to draw greater number of tourists and restore the beauty of the well-known island, Char Chinari situated at the Dal Lake, the tourism authorities are all prepared to plant two new Chinar trees on the island.

It’s quite a popular tourist destination and used to be one of the preferred spots of Bollywood films as movie locations. Kashmir is famous for its traditional cultures and heritage that has attracted tourists for years from world over.
Chinar trees are one of the significant heritages of the beautiful valley. This small island has always lured visitors in the Dal Lake to enjoy Shikara ride.

Also, Kashmir is known as the photographer’s paradise. Previously, filmmakers used to prefer shooting majority of their films in Char Chinari, where the magnificent Chinars at the four corners of the island were used to increase the beauty of the films.

Nevertheless, overtime, two of its trees had decayed particularly during the 2014 September floods. At present, the department of tourism along with the Floriculture department of Kashmir has planted two new Chinar trees at this renowned Island of Dal Lake. These two newly planted Chinar trees will help to restore the glory of this place which will attract more tourists in the future.

To quote a local resident, “It is a good initiative taken by the authority. Char Chinari has been an important tourist attraction for years. Two of the trees have damaged due to some disease. So the government has taken a very good initiative at the right time. So the glory will get restored with time.”

A tourist spoke to ANI about the famous island and said, “Dal Lake is the most popular and beautiful lake in India. Char Chinaar has a different charm altogether with beautiful snow covered hills and greenery all around. I have come here five to six times and I always feel a sense of relaxation when I visit this place.

Kashmiri people always welcome tourists with warmth and love. When we visit this place we also stay in houseboats and the houseboat’s owner treats us with some delicious delicacies every time.”

Stakeholders expected that tourists would initiate returning to Char Chinari and the Valley in much higher numbers in the spring and summer seasons.
