The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is excited to announce the return of its “Amazing Muay Thai Experience” series for a second consecutive year. Scheduled to take place from August to September, this series of events will be held across the four regions known as the origins of the Muay Thai Boran martial art forms. The initiative aims to encourage cross-regional travel and promote a more balanced distribution of tourism income throughout Thailand. By celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Muay Thai, TAT hopes to attract both local and international visitors to explore and appreciate the diverse regions of the country.

Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor, said, “The aged-old martial art of Muay Thai is one of Thailand’s national heritages and world-famous elements of Thai culture. It is an integral part of Thailand’s 5F soft-power foundations, which include Food, Film, Fashion, Fight, and Festival, and which portray a vast scope of opportunities for travel experiences in the kingdom.”

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is set to highlight an exhilarating series of Muay Thai-focused events throughout the year, offering tourists a unique opportunity to delve into the rich heritage of Thai martial arts in their place of origin.

The “Amazing Muay Thai Experience” series will feature the four distinct styles of Muay Thai Boran, or ancient Thai boxing. These styles include:

  1. Muay Chaiya of the Southern region, originating in Surat Thani.
  2. Muay Korat of the Northeastern region, originating in Nakhon Ratchasima.
  3. Muay Tha Sao of the Northern region, originating in Uttaradit.
  4. Muay Lop Buri of the Central region, originating in Lop Buri.

Each of these styles brings a unique aspect of the ancient martial art to life, reflecting the diverse cultural heritage of Thailand.

The first event will take place in Surat Thani from August 2-4 at the Chaloem Phrakiat 84th Birthday Anniversary Public Park in Chaiya District. This event will spotlight the “Muay Chaiya” fighting style, renowned for its seven distinctive characteristics: the stance, the three-step approach, the wai kru ritual, the outfit, the wrapping of fists with raw ropes, the training drills, and the use of the body as a weapon.

The second event is scheduled for August 16-18 in Uttaradit, at Wat Yai Tha Sao in Mueang District. This event will showcase the “Muay Tha Sao” fighting discipline, known for its speed and versatility, combining elements of Thai and Chinese martial arts techniques.

These events aim to celebrate and preserve the cultural heritage of Muay Thai, while also promoting cross-regional travel and a more equitable distribution of tourism income across Thailand. Visitors will have the chance to immerse themselves in the traditional art forms, learn about their historical significance, and witness the skilled techniques that have been passed down through generations.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is thrilled to announce the upcoming events in its “Amazing Muay Thai Experience” series, showcasing the rich and diverse heritage of Muay Thai Boran martial arts.

The third event is scheduled to take place in Nakhon Ratchasima from September 6-8 at the historic Meru Bhramathat in Phimai District. This event will feature the powerful “Muay Korat” martial art form, known for its strong kicks and punches, and its signature wide-angle punch known as the “buffalo swing fist.”

The final event in the series will be held in Lop Buri from September 13-15 at King Narai’s Palace in Mueang District. This event will highlight the swift and evasive “Muay Lop Buri” fighting technique, celebrated for its agility and speed.

Each event in the series offers Muay Thai enthusiasts and martial arts lovers a chance to immerse themselves in the cultural and philosophical aspects of these legendary Thai martial arts. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn proper techniques from Muay Thai masters and gain a deeper understanding of the life and philosophy behind these ancient practices.

In addition to showcasing Muay Thai Boran martial arts, the program will include Muay Thai fights, traditional martial arts sports such as Muay Tap Chak and Muay Thale, talisman tattooing, Thai boxing arcade games, and booths offering Muay Thai training courses and equipment. The events will also feature music concerts by Thai artists and a food zone with locally famous restaurants and must-try dishes, creating an exhilarating and immersive experience for all attendees.
