Tourism boom in China –Vietnam border

chinaChina-Vietnam border port of Dongxing in south China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region had a number of people passing through reaching  9.97 million in 2017, up 28 percent year on year.

 

 

China has allowed foreigners to conduct visa procedures at the city since 2013. Dongxing being the third largest land port in China is the only port connecting China and Vietnam through land and sea.

 

 

Chen Xiao, an official with the city’s border control office mentioned that the  city had a shopping street for border trade commodities and a pilot duty-free shopping mall.

 

 

The tourists were allowed to buy duty-free products worth up to 8,000 yuan (1,252 U.S. dollars) every day in border trade.

 

 

Self-driving tours to Mong Cai in Vietnam was launched by officials with Dongxing tourism bureau  in November 2016.

 

 

The two cities jointly promoted tourism in several Chinese and Vietnamese cities in January 2017.

 

 

An online appointment system for border tourism applications was launched by Dongxing.

 

 

During the first 11 months in 2017 around 192,000 tourists traveled to Vietnam from Dongxing with border tourism permits which was  up 15.7 percent year on year.
