Tourism collaboration with PBS aims at promoting New River Valley

Neighbourhoods in the New River Valley have planned to join together to increase regional tourism. The tourism departments from Floyd, Giles, Montgomery and Pulaski counties along with other city of Radford have made use of $20,000 in grant money from the Virginia Tourism Corporation and make small segments for broadcast on PBS.

Radford Tourism Director Deb Cooney applied for the funding and then introduced the idea after talking to someone from Blue Ridge PBS and is happy with the idea of working with local group instead of as an individual locality.

She mentioned that people refuse to stay in one particular area and hence focusing on people’s expectation and desire to roam around,  they decided to focus on the New River Valley project for tourism practices and ensure profitability for all.

Lisa Bleakley, Montgomery County’s tourism director, also stated on this occasion that said locality has its own characteristics that make it unique, and working together to highlight those is something each locality is committed to doing. And then mentioned about the new websites for further collaborations in hope of accelerating business. She said the funds will be spent marketing the series as well as having PBS film and produce the segments.
