Tourism Department in Kashmir introduced Horticultural Tourism

Dal Lake KashmirTo attract more national and international tourists in the paradise on the earth, the tourism department of Jammu and Kashmir has organised the horticultural tourism, by involving the tourists travelling to Srinagar Airport by giving a trip to the Horticultural Museum and the Farm house .



The department of tourism Kashmir organised a FAM trip of the Kashmir Valley’s tour operators and houseboat owners to Central Institute of Temperate Horticulture (CITH) at Rangret where different varieties of fruits and vegetables are dominant.



The Director of Central Institute of Temperate Horticulture, Desh Beer Singh along with his scientists took the assignment of around 30 persons from travel industry to the tour of the nurseries and farms and showed them large numbered of high yielding varieties of the fruits and vegetables.



This type of tourism will allow the school excursions and also the international tourists to have an identification of the vast flower and vegetable concept in Jammu and Kashmir.



The Director Tourism, Kashmir Mahmood A Shah who led the travel trade fraternity to center said the farm tourism can be explored as a tourism attraction for tourists in Srinagar, who are mostly attached in offbeat tourism.



According to the Tourism Director, Jammu and Kashmir is the only state in India where almonds and saffron grow.



Jammu and Kashmir has its monopoly in apple trade and walnut. The horticultural department has grown hundred of high-yielding varieties of fruits and vegetables here which the tourism department can exploit for tourism purposes.



This center is close to Srinagar International airport and is also in Srinagar which means the tourism bus don’t have to send tourist to far off villages to show them orchards. The Director of Tourism said that the farm tourism in Kashmir has huge potential which needs to be promoted.



The tourists in Kashmir want to create the purchase of apple, walnut, almonds, saffron which are known world over for their taste and quality.



The tourists can buy such products from markets. Here they can have farm tour and get the fresh fruit from directly from the orchards.



The Horticultural Center has also established museum showcasing the different varieties of the fruits and crops which can be a good learning experience for the tourists.
