Tourism figures in Singapore have increased ever since it reopened its borders to foreign visitors during the early period this year. Indians comprised the largest number of visitors to Singapore. The island city-state is now granting entry to fully vaccinated travelers from many countries around the worldsans any testing or quarantine rules. Busy tourist areas in Singapore are a testimony of returning tourists withseveral businesses preparing to greet more visitors from overseas.

Well-known tourist services in Singaporelike open-top tour buses and trishaws or the three-wheeled bicycles with a side seatare once again making their presence felt in Suntec City and Rochor Road, respectively. This was a common sight witnessed before the pandemic.

The number of tourists in April more than doubled to 294,200 from 121,200 in March. These tourism figures have been recorded by the Singapore Tourism Board. However, the numbers are still quite low compared to the 1.638 million average monthly visitors that Singapore witnessed last year before the pandemic in 2019. More than 300,000 of the visitors came from China, which is Singapore’s biggest pre-pandemic cradle for tourism. However, China is still largely shut for travel purposes.

Indians are, however, compensating for the missing Chinese tourists grabbing the largest group of foreigners traveling to Singapore since the onset of 2022. About 95,500 Indians entered Singapore from January to April. Second comes Indonesians with 89,700 and third are Malaysians with 45,600 traveling to Singapore by air.
