Tourism growing in & around the Lake of the Ozarks

OzarksThis time of year many shops and restaurants are pretty silent alongside the Bagnell Dam Strip, just like others across the Lake of the Ozarks. However, after the area received national attention through a popular TV show, these shop owners are expecting greater number of visitors in the upcoming summer.

“Oh, I definitely think so,” said Gerry Miller, who is the owner of two businesses on the Bagnell Dam Strip. “There’s great interest in everything that’s going on at the lake right now. There’s a lot of new things happening here.”

Tourism officials state that ever since “Ozark” debuted on Netflix in the summer of this year, Lake of the Ozarks has been talked about in many national as well as international travel magazines, which is starting to pick up interest even in what is called the slow season at the lake.

To quote Tim Jacobsen, Executive Director of the Lake of the Ozarks Convention and Visitors Bureau, “we’ve seen increased traffic to our website, domestic and internationally, as well as a lot of our local chambers have seen increase to their websites as well, which equates to more business here at our local area, for the establishments that are here.”
If you’re not accustomed with the Netflix show, it’s a fictional story and the plot line is quite dark.

“I think that as the businesses see and understand that people see through the entertainment aspect of this series and actually see business coming to the lake, real estate being sold, and people visiting, that it’s a little easier to take,” Jacobsen added.
