Tourism in Germany continues to recuperate from the aftermath of the coronavirus pandemic, with overnight stays touching almost pre-crisis levels in June.
The Federal Statistical Office said that the number of overnight halts by travelers was 48.9 million, which is only 3.4 per cent below the levels of June 2019.
The deficit from the pre-crisis level is fast contracting since the beginning of this year.
Even, the overnight stays by guests from Germany slightly surpassed the pre-crisis level in June by 0.3 per cent.
However, travelers from overseas still recorded a 22.2 per cent underperformance.
Hotels, guesthouses and other lodging facilities witnessed a total of 187.6 million overnight halts in the first half of this year. This is 146.3 per cent additional compared to the same period last year. Domestic guests registered 162.4 million overnight stays.
The recovery is even more distinct among travelers from out of the country with 25.2 million overnight stops, marking an increase of 304.4 per cent.
However, this improvement has not been witnessed equally across the sector.
Hotels, guesthouses and inns with more than 10 beds witnessed 4.5 per cent less overnight halts in June compared to three years before.
Overnight halts in holiday spaces and campsites, in contrast, somewhat exceeded the pre-crisis levels.
