Tourism industry feels left out in the Union Budget

“It is unimaginable that an industry which contributes 10% to the GDP and uses 15% of human resource is being ignored by the government during these stressful times,” said Rajeev Saxena, the vice-chairman of the Tourism Guild, Agra, thereby expressing his displeasureregarding the lack of budgetary support for tourism in the Budget presented by the Indian Finance Minister N Sitharaman on Tuesday.

There is no plan for travel and tourism industry bettermentaffected by the pandemic, said Sunil Gupta, the chairman of the Northern Region Indian Association of Tour Operators.

Saxena termed the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme to award five lakh crore loans to MSMEs, tourism and hospitality as eyewash, saying that barely any loans were given because of unattractive banking terms and entrepreneurs’ inability to pay interest due to shuttingdown of their businesses.
