The Taiwan medical workers cease their breath in anxiety as the rate of spread of COVID-19 stabilize, the tourism and food service industries are fighting hard to stay afloat.

UDN cited Travel Agent Association of the Republic of China, Taiwan Chair Hsiao Po-jen, as explaining that the sector is in major urgency of subsidy.

Hsiao asserted that at present the government offers a subsidy of NT$20,000 for each specialized tour and tour group. Till now, such tours have been hardly organized because of the government requirement to be vaccinated for travellers with three shots. He requested the government to answer to the call of the sector and start planning to revive as others have already done that.

Wei I-chen, Chair Hsinchu County Tourism Association, notified UDN that consumers have also been withdrawing their travel bookings from their side as well, causing low occupancy rates at hotels. She explained that the sector’s main concern is if COVID persists through July and August, as the summers are the high season for tourism, traditionally.

IA seafood restaurant operator, in a recent interview, told Chinese Television System that because of the recent COVID wave, the number in sales has declined to 10% from 40%. Another stated that he hoped to see numbers increasing to 60-70% during the upcoming Dragon Boat Festival break.

In the meantime, China Times reported that because of the increase in COVID cases of late, in Hualien, Dragon Boat Festival weekend and it’s half of all hotel bookings have been cancelled.
