After two years of slump due to the pandemic, the tourism industry in Dharamsala is witnessing better days again! The weekend tourism has boomed and hotel bookings for the coming summer season are gaining momentum. In spite of that, a major concern for the industry is that there are no signs of recovery of international tourism in that area.

Foreigners contributed for the major portion of the business for the tourism industry of Dharamsala. However, now the Russia-Ukraine war is expected to cast a shadow regarding arrival of international tourists to India. Although the government is allowing international flights from March 27, with sky high airfares, the arrival of budget tourists to India might be affected.

AshwaniBamba, the president of the Upper Dharamsala Hotel and Restaurant Association said, “Now that the Covid fear among people is fading, the weekend tourism in Dharamsala has picked up in March, which had been reeling under losses for the past two years.”

Sanjeev Gandhi, the general secretary of the Smart City Dharamsala Hotel and Restaurant Association said thatmost foreign Buddhist tourists coming in groups to the region moved in a planned manner. They are expected to visit the region after March 27.
