Following a local reaction against a check post mounted on the way to Vishalgad fort in the midst of doubts of it discouraging tourism, an assessment conference of the authorities has caused the decision to maintain the halt, but decrease the tourism levy on vehicles that are passing through.
The resolve to launch this levy for visitors was taken in a previous Manoli gram panchayat gathering, and the supposed check post was fixed by the forest division in the Manoli dam region.
Nevertheless, the market commission at Amba village, Amba gram panchayat and resort operators were pitted against this move. They protested and urged that tourists to Vishalgad fort and Pawankhind should not be imposed any tax. They specified that it would upset the quantity of tourists stopping at their hill station.
A written petition was also forwarded to the Kolhapur deputy forest conservator.
G Guruprasad, the deputy conservator of forest spoke at the meet and stated that a levy of Rs. 10 per head would be appropriate for visitors to Waghzara and Konkan Darshan point, and each vehicle would be charged Rs. 20 at Manoli check post. The tourism levy would not be imposed on local villagers.
