Tourism Malaysia has appointed Datuk Musa Yusof as its new DG, succeeding Datuk Seri Mirza Mohammad Taiyab who officially retired last weekend.

Prior to his appointment as the new DG, Musa had served as senior director for the international promotion division (Asia and Africa). Musa started off his career at Tourism Malaysia as an assistant director of the enforcement and facilitation division on July 7, 1990.

He also held many key positions in the industry — which included working as special officer (tourism) to former Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Tan Sri Sabbaruddin Chik (1997-1998).

He was also director of the Tourism Malaysia Paris office from 1998 till 2003. Musa’s new task will be to bring the tourism industry to greater heights and assist the ministry in their efforts to achieve our targets.

Under his new leadership, one can enhance the cooperation among all agencies under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and work together as one to achieve excellence.

The tourism industry in Malaysia is expected to see about 30 million tourist arrivals by year-end. It is the third-highest contributor to the country’s foreign-exchange receipts, after manufacturing and commodities.
