Ethiopia is a flourishing tourist destination in Africa. For many travel enthusiasts, it has the possibility to turn into a bucket-list adventure.

Chris Roche, the African tourism industry veteran, a couple of years ago has recognized the possibility of this destination. He has taken a decision to quit his position at Wilderness Safaris and start a new company of his own with the name – Wild Expeditions. It would focuses on what he calls genuine, simple and natural destinations. He wanted to discover the exotic destinations and their opportunities where the bigger travel brands are not being courageous to take the plunge.

Roche emphasized that on the African continent, Ethiopia has been one of the rapid growing economies. However, acknowledged that there remain disputes. The country doesn’t have any foreign banks is one of the challenges and a key restriction for companies keen on investing in the destination. One more is convenience, particularly from the U.S. The Ethiopian Airlines is the only important airline that flies without any halt to the United States, with seasonal service from Washington Dulles and Chicago O’Hare.

At present, Ethiopia carries a Level Three advisory from the U.S. State Department. For many years, Ethiopia had been afflicted by civil conflicts. The recent clash started in 2020. It happened between the forces of Ethiopian government and its allies against Tigrayan forces.

However, the challenges have not yet stopped Wild Expeditions from introducing tours in this virtually undiscovered country.
