imagesDuring the 1st quarter of 2017, tourist arrivals in Zimbabwe increased by 6 percent compared to the same period last year. Maximum number of these tourists came from mainland Africa.

During this same period, arrivals from Europe increased by 29 percent with increases in most major markets including the UK, France and Germany.

The ZTA said that the increase in European arrivals is a positive development after experiencing a decline in 2016. The European market share stood at seven percent, second only to Africa. Thus Europe remains the biggest overseas market for Zimbabwe.

However, although the arrivals from Europe have increased, Zimbabwe still has a long way to go regarding attracting arrivals from this market. It also needs to compete against South Africa, which is its strongest neighbor getting record arrivals from the UK in the first two months of 2017.
