Tourist destinations in Bath gets £5 million for trail of 5G network

BathA sum of £5 million has been secured by the West of England Combined Authority from the government to trail a superfast 5G network at tourist destinations in Bristol and Bath.
The Roman Baths in Bath, M Shed and surrounding areas of We The Curious and Millenium Square in Bristol will have see the trail of the 5G infrastructure.

 

 
Tim Bowles, West of England Mayor stated to imagine a virtual Roman soldier showing the Roman Baths and  imagine it moving 360 degrees on the mobile phone at a resolution never experienced before. This is what the 5G technology will be offering.

 
He further mentioned that the 5G Smart Tourism bid will be allowing trails of some of the exciting technology at the top tourist attractions. In long term, the new technology will hold key to a more advanced, sustainable and smart future about to revolutionise the way people travel and work.

 

Margot James, Minister of State for Digital and the Creative Industries mentioned that the  next generation of connectivity will transform business and society.
The UK Government is committed to ensuring the UK is fit for a 5G future, smart tourism is just one of the projects being funded to drive this forward.
The minister was looking forward to exploration of the innovative ways 5G can boost the West of England’s fantastic tourism experiences.

Cllr Tim Warren, Leader of Bath & North East Somerset Council was proud to be part of this innovation; which supports our their commitment to provide 21st Century technology across Bath. It will enhance the experience for people visiting such heritage gems as the Roman Baths.

 

The largest step forward in the mobile network technology will be 5G, the trail is expected to support the ‘ Internet of Things’ .
The West of England is home to the largest cluster of digital expertise outside London. The businesses and universities are at the forefront of innovation in the next generation network stated the Professor Steve West, Chair of the West of England Local Enterprise Partnership.
