Tourist helicopter crashes into New York’s East River, kills five

Chopper-crashA tourist helicopter has crashed in East River of New York killing five tourists and three injured.


The pilot managed to escape but then five tourists died while police drivers raced to rescue others who were trapped inside. The Fire Department of New York and New York Police Department are presently at the scene where the helicopter plunged into the river.


The police sources have stated that at least five people are trapped in the sinking vessel.


This chopper descended close to Gracie Mansion at about 7.15 p.m. local time as per a high-ranking source in the media. A spokesperson for NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio confirmed at least two passengers were dead and one was rescued from the crashed helicopter.


A spokeswoman of Federal Aviation Administration mentioned that the Eurocopter A350 had gone down in the waterway just north of Roosevelt Island and is ‘reportedly inverted in the water’.


Within a few minutes the helicopter disappeared beneath the waves as per witness John Magers.


He then added that the pilot was capable of getting out and climbing aboard a raft as has been reported by a leading news media of the region. It said that the pilot had walked over to an ambulance where he was offered additional medical assistance. The moment had been captured on video and posted on a micro blogging site.


Magers also stated that he had observed police dropping rivers into the river.


A video posted on the microblogging site portrays a red helicopter land quite roughly into the water and then tip over as its rotors slapped at the water.


Police deployed two divers and one of the people was taken to Bellevue Hospital according to the sources.


The National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA are currently investigating the incident.


And the cause of the incident is yet to be identified.
