Tourists calling off trips to Agra in the fear of night curfew

In 2020, the pandemic-induced lockdown and the close down of the Taj Mahal has almost damaged several tourism businesses of Agra and the families linked to the sector.


The torment of 2020 was yet to get over when Covid made a formidable return in the India in March and signals that for another lockdown on the cards for Agra.


In Agra, the daily number of new cases of Covid-19 is increasing fast and soon it will touch triple digits. Domestic tourists have already started calling off their bookings for Agra because of a probable night curfew.


Rakesh Chauhan, Agra Hotel and Restaurants Association President, recently explained that majority of tourists are coming to see the Taj Mahal in the morning and return by evening. With the impending night curfew in Agra, the tourists are not coming to the city.


Agra Tourism Development Foundation President Sandeep Arora has stated that in March, tourist number had hardly started rising when it again started showing signs of declining due to the night curfew fear. The unsure situation has caused low tourist number at the Taj Mahal and the number is declining almost every day.


Agra Tourist Welfare Chamber Secretary, Vishal Sharma has explained that many Indian cities like Lucknow have by now executed night curfew to stop COVID spread. In 2020, several tourists got trapped in Agra due to the sudden lockdown announcement and this year, tourists are unwilling to take the same risk again.
