Tourists thronging Himachal hotspots, flouting Covid-19 norms give rise to government concern

Published on : Thursday, July 8, 2021

In order to take a break from the heat wave in the plains, tourists are flocking to Himachal Pradesh’s Manali. The Covid-19 cases in the state witnessed a drop after the brutal second wave showed signs of decline. Ever since the Himachal Pradesh government announced an ease in corona virus restrictions last month, tourists decided to head towards higher altitudes, including Kullu-Manali and Dharamshala.

With this sudden surge in tourists, pictures and videos of crowded streets in Manali are all over the internet, causing worry among officials and locals. Apart from expressing their concerns about a possible third wave, netizens are sharing memes and jokes with Covid-19 and social-distancing protocols being ignored. #ThirdWave started trending on Twitter with the photos from Manali going viral.
