Tourists to the Nilgiris Drop with Increasing Covid Cases

With the number of COVID-19 cases increasing across Tamil Nadu and also in Kerala, the number of tourists to the Nilgiris has dropped significantly since the beginning of the year, as per officials from the Tourism Department as well as hotel and restaurant owners.


The tourism and hospitality sector in the Nilgiris witnessed tourist numbers go up at the end of last year, with more than 2.5 lakh visitors.


With the recent increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in the Nilgiris, the Health Department is taking possession of two COVID-19 care centers in Udhagamandalam and Coonoor to make sure that patients have access to beds in the coming weeks.
