As per Santhanpara panchayat officials, almost 5,000 to 10,000 people are visiting Idukki regularly to catch a glimpse of the Neelakurinji flowers.

Many photographers and videographers are also dropping by to capture the efflorescence, which happens once in 12 years.

Due to the blue panorama of flowers covering the Kallippara hills, Idukki is witnessing its biggest influx of visitors after the COVID-19 pandemic.

The quiet village of Santhanpara has become a major tourist spot in Kerala, with tourists dropping in from various parts of the state to see the Neelakurinji flowers in full bloom.

Jithesh Jose, the secretary, Idukki District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) said that the surprising Neelakurinji flowering has delivered an extra lift to the tourism sector in Idukki. Currently, there is no entry or parking fee for visiting the hills, and thus, the exact number of visitors to the Kallippara hills is not known, said Jose.

Santhanpara panchayat president Liju Varghese said that the local body is eager to provide maximum support to the visitors. An ambulance and 10 emergency response team (ERT) members have been organized. Due to the rush of the Deepavali season, other amenities, comprising e-toilets, will be built at the earliest.
