Trail tour cancelled in Japan after tourists identified with COVID-19

On a trial group visit to Japan, a traveler from Thailand was tested positive for the novel coronavirus. The Japan Tourism Agency said on May 30th that this has resulted in the cancellation of that tour. In that group, three other Thais have been kept remotely at a housing facility and a hotel located in Oita Prefecture. The agency has confirmed that they have tested negative for the virus.


From four countries, since late May 2022, the Japan government has permitted small group tours on a trial basis to prepare for the full reopening process gradually of its borders to international tourists from June 10th, 2022.
Among the 50 people in 15 groups from Thailand, the United States, Australia and Singapore, this is the first confirmed case of infection.


One tourist protested of an aching throat on May 30th, in the group from Thailand. Later, they tested positive as per the agency and Oita Prefecture.


For five days and four nights, the group was scheduled to stay in Japan. The four Thai participants landed at Haneda Airport in Tokyo. On May 27th, they took a connecting flight to Fukuoka Airport. In Fukuoka, they went on sightseeing and stayed in Yufuin and Beppu in Oita Prefecture.


By car, they traveled and were escorted by a travel agency tour conductor. On May 30th, they were scheduled to stay in Fukuoka Prefecture.
