Train derails at Savannah Station carrying 300 passengers due to Storm Grayson

stormIn the main station of the US town of Savannah, Georgia a crash occurred during Storm Grayson.

 

When the train approached Savannah Station an announcement was made that the switch to change the train’s direction on the track was frozen.

 

 

Jason Abrams, Amtrak Spokesman said that all three cars including a baggage car and two sleeper cars were  fully upright.

 

 

It was reported that the track switch opened accidentally resulting in the three carriages to derail.

 

 

At around 10.00pm the train was travelling from Miami to New York  where the incident too place.

 

 

A passenger Joel Potischman said that things are calm, they were  in the car and so far any announcements about evacuating was not announced.

 

 

Further he was not aware of anyone having been hurt.

 

At least two carriages derailed carrying passengers while one might be holding luggage.

 

 

Mike Zevon another passenger said the last car was the baggage car and the other two were  sleepers and so far one got injured.

 

The last announcement mentioned that they were removing passengers who were ticketed for Savannah and they were still working on a plan to get the passengers up north  safely.

 

 

Storm Grayson caused chaos on the US East Coast with a “bomb cyclone” resulting in colder temperatures.

 

 

Warnings have been issued about Storm Grayson in the states of Florida, Georgia, Virginia and North Carolina.

 

 

A snow emergency has been declared in the city of Philadelphia, in Pennsylvania.
