According to recent World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) data, the travel and tourism sector in Dubai and Abu Dhabi is showing indications of revival. According to VisaGuide.World, the WTTC research also shows that international passengers have returned to the UAE, offering a much-needed boost to the country’s economy.
According to the Economic Impact of Cities study, the Travel and Tourism industry contributed about AED 51 billion to Dubai’s GDP in 2019 and AED 12.5 billion to Abu Dhabi’s economy. Furthermore, a year later, the GDP contribution of Travel and Tourism in these cities plummeted by more than half, with Dubai contributing AED 19.5 billion and Abu Dhabi contributing just AED 6 billion.
However, according to WTTC, Dubai’s Travel and Tourism sector would reach AED 46 billion in 2022, which is just 10% lower than in 2019. At the same time, Abu Dhabi’s Travel and Tourism sector is predicted to grow to AED 11 billion last year, barely 12% lower than in 2019.
In this respect, Julia Simpson, President and CEO of WTTC, stated that city destinations in the UAE are becoming increasingly popular among tourists from all over the world.
“Although these key cities were heavily affected by the pandemic, they have shown incredible resilience and signs of growth. The UAE’s Travel & Tourism sector is on the road to re-covery, demonstrative of the wide appeal tourist destinations across the region continue to hold for international travelers,” she also noted.
