Icy road condition has wreaked havoc for commuters in Dublin, there were multiple crashes around and long delays on the N7 and the M50 as a result of separate incidents.

There were lanes blocked leading to long delays,in other parts of the capital the crash blocked the bus lane on the Drumcondra road which is close to the Clonliffe road junction causing heavy congestion.

From J7 Julianstown to J6 Balbriggan the M1 is slow southbound along with the J3 swords.

There were traffic alerts and O’Connell Bridge closed from South Quay to North Quay because of an ongoing incident. However, the O’ Connell Bridge from North Quay to South Quay remain open.

Until 8 am this morning a snow and ice warning was put in place by Met Eireann over the weekend for 22 counties.

On the Sally Gap there were Road Impassable signs and severe weather protocol was put in place by the Garda Traffic due to heavy rainfall on high ground. People were suggested to use alternative routes and avoid upland roads.

There were warnings that heavy rain will turn to sleet and snow which will be above 300 metres along with local dusting of snow at lower levels.

In places wet and slushy roads were likely to turn icy in places overnights and temperatures might drop below freezing.

Over the next few days temperatures will rise and the mercury will be as high as 8C. Some places will be affected by isolated thunderstorm.

Early morning there were sunny spells and occasional heavy rain and hail showers in the western counties, in the higher ground of the west and north there will be some snow and isolated thunderstorms.

The recorded highest temperatures were between 4 to 8 degrees Celsius, in moderate to fresh west to south west winds.
